Tom Cruise has a new impossible mission and it's helping to launch Universal's monster cinematic universe. A few days ago we got the teaser for a reboot of The Mummy, and now today comes the first full action-packed trailer.
Directed by Alex Kurtzman who seems to be blending horror elements with the kind of action we expect out of Cruise. Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service) is the new female mummy, with Russell Crowe starring as Dr. Jekyll. And yes, if you figured Jekyll was around as setup to a future movie then you are right. We'll also see films featuring the Wolf Man (Universal wants Dwayne Johnson for it), the Invisible Man (possibly with Johnny Depp), and vampire hunter Van Helsing. Dracula Untold had been the first film in the connected universe, but since it was terrible The Mummy has now taken that position.
The Mummy sinks its teeth into theaters on June 9th 2017.
