Will Ferrell And Kristen Wiig Have A Musical About Musicals On The Way
The musical is definitely back again (Thank you La La Land) and as expected we're going to see Hollywood milking the genre for all it's worth. If that means one of them will reunite the always funny duo of Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig, then I'm all for it. Deadline reports they'll star in a musical surprisingly based on the book, Everything Is Coming Up Profits: The Golden Age Of Industrial Musicals by Steven Young and Sport Murphy.
So you guessed it; it's a musical about musicals. Smell a spoof coming? Probably similar to the work they did on The Spoils Before Dying? The book chronicles how companies would use lavish musicals featuring big stars to educate their employees on their products, thus making them easier to sell to customers. Yep, the material writes itself, especially since there used to be some popular actors enlisted to star as inanimate objects.
Smash and Hairspray writers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman will be providing the music. Looking closer, it only says Ferell and Wiig are "developing" the project, but something like this is too good for them not to be the leads. Hopefully we'll learn more when a writer and director are named.
