'T2 Trainspotting' Legacy Trailer Brings The Gang Together Again

Can one ever really go home again? Danny Boyle is certainly hoping so with T2 Trainspotting, the long-awaited sequel to his 1996 hit which many consider to be a classic. Back are Ewan McGregor as Renton,  Ewen Bremner as Spud, Robert Carlyle as Begbie, and Jonny Lee Miller as Sick Boy. Judging by the new "Legacy" trailer, the gang appears to have broken free from their drug habit, but they've got deeper issues that have nothing to do with their personal demons and aren't so easily done away with. Here's the synopsis:

First there was an opportunity……then there was a betrayal. Twenty years have gone by. Much has changed but just as much remains the same. Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to the only place he can ever call home. They are waiting for him: Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle). Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance.

Trainspotting never really spoke to me so I'm less eager for this than others. That said, I'm curious to see how Boyle approaches these characters after so long away. Keeping the same tone as before doesn't seem like the right move.  T2 Trainspotting opens March 17th.
