This might be the best news we get all week. Basically, you win, Internet! In 2014 a photo of Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o and Grammy winner Rihanna together at a Miu Miu fashion show went viral, like super viral, with people calling for a movie starring the two to get made. They even asked specifically for Ava DuVernay to direct it. From there it exploded with Twitter users coming up with different movie plots, and even making a pitch for Insecure star Issa Rae to write the script.
Damn, well they got their wish EXACTLY how they wanted it. You friggin' win.
Netflix aggressively outbid other distributors at Cannes for a film that will star Nyong'o and Rihanna, penned by Rae, and directed by DuVernay. Damn, son. The plot, which is still pretty loose at this point, is even taken from one of the ideas pitched on Twitter, with Rihanna playing a sexy woman who scams rich white men, with Nyong'o as her computer smart accomplice.
This craziness is expected to get rolling in 2018 after DuVernay finishes up on Disney's A Wrinkle in Time. [EW]
