Remember in The Craft when the coven of witches gained enough power to exact horrible revenge on everyone who wronged them in high school? Well, Joey King experiences a similar power trip in Wish Upon, and she'll also experience a deadly reversal of fortune, as well.
Annabelle director John R. Leonetti turns his attention away from killer dolls to killer music boxes this time with a classic "Be careful what you wish for" theme. King plays a high school girl who discovers the music box in the garbage, and uses its demonic powers to get payback on those who have been bullying her. But the tables turn when the box demands a heavy toll, starting with the death of everyone she holds dear.
Horror movies exactly like this were a staple of the '80s and I'm glad to see them making a comeback. Hopefully it lives up to expectations. Also starring Ryan Phillippe, Shannon Purser, Sydney Park, Sherilyn Fenn, and Ki Hong Lee, Wish Upon opens July 14th.
