Finally Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch are getting the screen time they deserve, only it's without Marvel! Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen will never get the attention they deserve as part of the Avengers, but as the leads of Wind River, the excellent directorial debut by Sicario and Hell or High Water writer Taylor Sheridan, they're twice as badass without any kind of superpowers.
Renner and Olsen fit right in to Sheridan's punishing, muscular tale set on a Native American reservation where an animal tracker and an out-of-her-depth FBI agent attempt to solve a murder. Sheridan fills out the cast with talent from top to bottom, including Jon Bernthal, Graham Greene, and Gil Birmingham who was so good as Jeff Bridges' partner in Hell or High Water. I had a chance to catch up with this film at its Sundance world premiere, and it's a must see.
