Marvel's 'Runaways' Series Is Headed To Hulu

Once developed to be part of the connective tissue of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a film to be directed by Peter Sollett then followed by Drew Pearce, Runaways never really fit into Kevin Feige's plans. Apparently they didn't have room for a movie about teenage superheroes. Somebody ought to tell those Spider-Man: Homecoming folks. Anyway, rather than pushing it back endlessly Marvel made the wise decision to turn Brian K. Vaughn's popular comic into a television series, and it now officially has a home.

Hulu has picked up Runaways to join their increasingly impressive lineup of original programming that includes The Handmaid's Tale, arguably the most talked-about series of the year so far. Runaways follows a group of kids, all the children of supervillains, who rebel against the parentals and strike out on their own to be heroes. It's a great concept and the characters, which were written by Joss Whedon for a while, have gone on to become key figures in the Marvel Comics.

Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are acting as showrunners, and you can expect some of the same high school-aged drama, only with 100% more superpowers. [Deadline]
