NEW THIS WEEK
This
new comedy stars Charlie Day as an overworked high school English teacher
struggling to keep control of his students on the last day before summer, and
Ice Cube as the no-nonsense history teacher who calls him out, challenging him
to an after-school fight in response to his recent firing.
We Said: “Yes, Fist
Fight takes an hour and a half of to get to the actual fist fight,
which is unsatisfactory and pathetic in its attempts to close out the film. The
film is demeaning sort of comedy, paralleled by its highly questionable events
and plot (if you can even call it that).” Rating: 1.5 out of 5
Based
on the acclaimed book of the same name, Before I Fall tells the story of Samantha
(Zoey Deutch) a popular high school student who’s bright future is cut short by
a fatal car crash. This fantastical teen-drama sees her awaken once again on
the morning of her death, stuck reliving the same day over and over again and examining the different points of view of the people she held the closest.
We Said: “Zoey Deutch gives
a layered performance and is able to strongly carry the film. Before
I Fall examines what it means to ultimately be a good person and the
effects of bullying in a time-loop story that has a bit more depth than the
average young adult adaptation.” Rating:
3.5 out of 5
