Sam Mendes May Direct Disney Live-Action 'Pinocchio' Remake
Disney may be doubling down on Skyfall director, Sam Mendes. While they already have him attached to a live-action adaptation of James and the Giant Peach, Disney now wants him for their upcoming remake of animated classic, Pinocchio.
This is just the latest in Disney's string of hit live-action reimaginings of their animated library. The most recent is Beauty and the Beast, which is still in theaters and is the top-grossing movie of the year with $1.2B. Peter Hedges (Dan in Real Life) was hired to write the script a couple of years ago, based loosely on the original story of the wooden puppet who becomes a real boy and goes on amazing adventures. Disney's 1940 animated movie has become the definitive version of Pinocchio's story.
Who knows where this will fall on Mendes' schedule. Besides the two projects already mentioned he also has an adaptation of My Favorite Thing is Monsters developing at Sony. [Deadline]
