Michelle Williams Joins Amy Schumer In 'I Feel Pretty' And Leos Carax's 'Annette'
When was the last time Michelle Williams starred in a comedy? The majority of her roles, including the many she's been Oscar nominated for, have been pretty gloomy. I think it was 2005's The Baxter that she last made anybody laugh on screen. Anyway, that's changing now because she's joining Amy Schumer's upcoming film, I Feel Pretty, so we're pretty much guaranteed to crack a smile.
Williams will play Schumer's boss at a cosmetics company where Schumer struggles with insecurity, believing herself to be unattractive. After an exercising accident, Schumer wakes up believing she is under a spell that makes her the most beautiful woman in the world, which gives her the confidence to live life to the fullest and win Williams' respect. Basically you can get ready for a lesson about beauty being more than what's on the outside. I learned that lesson thanks to Shallow Hal, do I need to see it again? [Deadline]
Meanwhile, Williams has replaced Rooney Mara in Annette, the follow-up film from Holy Motors director Leos Carax. This one has had a tough time getting going. Adam Driver remains on board but Mara and Rihanna, who were initially cast, both dropped out. Set to be a musical, the story centers on a stand-up comedian who loses his opera singer wife, and discovers their 2 year-old daughter has an extraordinary gift. [TheFilmStage]
