Adam Sandler Gets Serious In Trailer For Noah Baumbach's 'The Meyerowitz Stories'
Netflix's exclusive deal with Adam Sandler has been a boon for the streaming service even as it's been a curse for viewers. But it may be about to pay dividends for everybody, because the deal also means Sandler's new film with Noah Baumbach, The Meyerowitz Stories, is coming to Netflix and already there's buzz of it being the best thing the actor has done in years. Low bar, I know, but let's keep an open mind.
Sandler stars along Ben Stiller and Elizabeth Marvel, the trio playing siblings who are dealing with conflicted feelings towards their father, played by Dustin Hoffman. The teaser is brief but gives us a good idea of the tone as Sandler and Hoffman belt out a family tune over the piano. It's not quite as upbeat as Baumbach's most recent efforts, While We're Young, Mistress America, and Frances Ha, but I have a feeling it won't be quite as poisonous as say, The Squid and the Whale. Or let's hope not, anyway.
Also starring Emma Thompson, Grace Van Patten, Adam Driver, Candice Bergen, Judd Hirsch, and Rebecca Miller, The Meyerowitz Stories hits Netflix on October 13th. I expect Netflix will mount a major awards push for this, which may cause conflict with their push for Dee Rees' Mudbound.
