"Family is the Ultimate Power" is the title of Fox's new teaser for The Gifted. That may be true, but the real power is $$$$. 20th Century Fox has seen the value of expanding their X-Men brand beyond the big screen to the small, cashing in on FX's hit series Legion and now with The Gifted, which looks more personal and low stakes than the "Oh my God the world is in peril!" stuff that the X-Men movies provide.
The series hails from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix, with the pilot directed by X-Men flagbearer, Bryan Singer. Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Percy Hynes White, and Natalie Alyn Lind star as the Strucker family, whose lives are turned upside down when their kids are revealed to be powerful mutants. It's a little awkward since dad prosecutes mutants for a living and all. Others in the cast include Sean Teale, Blair Redford as the mutant John "Thunderbird" Proudstar, Coby Bell, Jamie Chung as Blink, and Emma Dumont as Lorna "Polaris" Dane. The inclusion of those popular mutants is big because the series is loosely connected to the movie universe.
The Gifted hits Fox on Monday, October 2nd and has been picked up for a full season order.
