First Look At Brie Larson In 'Unicorn Store', Charlie Hunnam & Rami Malek In 'Papillon'
The TIFF lineup continues to expand, and that means first looks at some promising upcoming films. Here a couple that I've had my eye on for a while.
First up we have Brie Larson in Unicorn Store, which happens to be the busy Oscar-winner's directorial debut. Yeah, there's just no stopping her, is there? The film finds Larson also in front of the camera alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Joan Cusack, Karan Soni (the taxi guy from Deadpool), Mamoudou Athie, and Hamish Linklater. The story will find Larson as a woman who moves back in with her parents, only to be invited to the mysterious titular store where she learns what growing up is all about.
Next up is the remake I doubt many people were hoping for and fewer were willing to undertake, Papillon. The original 1973 film led by Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman is a classic, unexpectedly lucrative one at that, and this new version has some tough shoes to fill. Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek star in the Michael Noer-directed redo, which features a script by Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski. Based on the true story of Henri Charriere, the film charts his attempts to escape a brutal penal colony after being false convicted of murder. Malek plays the counterfeiter Louis Dega who aids in the escape.
