First Look At Christian Bale In Scott Cooper's 'Hostiles'
Potential. We talk about it a lot for something that ultimately means nothing until it's either been met, or goes unfulfilled. There was certainly a ton of unmet potential in Out of the Furnace, the last collaboration between director Scott Cooper and star Christian Bale. But the duo are back and looking to rectify that mistake with Hostiles, a period drama that will be making its premiere at TIFF in a matter of weeks.
In the second high-profile film centered on the plight of Native Americans (the other being Wind River), Hostiles takes place in 1892 and follows a legendary Army Captain who reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief from New Mexico to Montana, facing hostile threats the whole way.
The dying chief is played by The Last of the Mohicans's Wes Studi, while Rosamund Pike is a widow whose family was murdered on the plains. Adam Beach, Ben Foster, Q'orianka Kilcher, Jesse Plemons, and Rory Cochrane co-star.
