James Wan has his hands in a lot of different jars. He's currently directing Aquaman for Warner Bros.' DCEU, he's created The Conjuring universe based on his horror flicks, and he even directed a Fast & Furious movie. He's so busy, he doesn't even have time to direct the adaptation of his own comic book, Malignant Man. Fortunately he's found someone capable of taking it over in Stranger Things director, Becca Thomas.
Thomas, who is one of the few directors behind the camera for Stranger Things' second season, has been set to helm the big screen version of Wan's comic, titled Malignant. The BOOM! Studios comic was co-created by Wan along with writer Michael Alan Nelson and artist Piotr Kowalski, centering on a man has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, only to discover that it isn't cancer but an alien parasite. It grants him special abilities and a new lease on life, which he uses to battle "an evil army buried beneath society’s skin, all the while unlocking the secrets of his forgotten past.” San Andreas' Brad Peyton had previously been attached to direct.
This is just the latest in a string of projects Thomas has been attached to. She's attached to Universal's live-action The Little Mermaid, plus an adaptation of Gonzo Girl starring Olivia Cooke, and an adaptation of John Green's book, Looking for Alaska. [Variety]
