Jennifer Lawrence Is Losing It In New Look At Darren Aronofsky's 'mother!'

What the heck is going on in Darren Aronofsky's thriller, mother!, anyway? We've seen some creepy posters and one insane trailer, but all they've done is lead to more questions. One answer that I think we were able to pick up on is Aronofsky venturing back into Black Swan psychological-horror territory, only this time it's Jennifer Lawrence who has her nerves frayed beyond repair.

As EW drops a new image, actually the first official still from the film, Aronofsky has chimed in to say that he's not even sure what mother! is supposed to be.

“I was always jealous of singer-songwriters who can pop out a song in a couple of days or a few hours. I had this idea, and I felt it rise up in my head. I took a long weekend and got into this fever dream and just pumped it out. [Laughs] We’ll see what the results are. It’s been an interesting way to approach it — trying to capture a single emotion and trying to tell that two hour story out of that emotion...I’m still figuring it out! It has home-invasion elements and is definitely a thriller. It is closer to Black Swan in spirit than anything I have done in a while.”

Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, and Michelle Pfeiffer co-star in the film which is about a couple who see their relationship tested by unwanted guests. While we know it starts with Harris and Pfeiffer showing up on their door, it looks like hundreds, maybe even thousands will be paying them a visit.

mother! hits theaters on September 15th but will play at TIFF and Venice first.
