From her directorial debut, All We Had, to roles in Steven Soderbergh's Logan Lucky and drama The Gift, Katie Holmes is having a pretty busy year. It's totally possible she achieved it by relying on the power on the universe, and that could be why she's also about to star in a screen adaptation of bestselling self help book, The Secret. The universe always provides.
Because I know everybody always does what Oprah tells them to do, there's no need to go over the book's philosophy of the "law of attraction", right? Oh. Well, then. Taking a narrative approach to Rhonda Byrne's book, itself based on a documentary which was based on a 1910 book called The Science of Getting Rich (no bullshit), the film centers on a handyman who enters the lives of a widow and her three kids. He teaches them that the secret to getting what they want is to put all of their hopes and wishes on a piece of poster board and wait for the generosity of the universe to come through. That's right. He tells them to make a dream board. I mean, there's more to it than that. They have to "Ask" and "Believe" before they can "Receive."
Andy Tennant (Hitch, Sweet Home Alabama) will be behind the camera, with This is Us writer Bekah Brunstetter providing the script. Looks like the New Thought movement is about to see a surge in membership.
