Punch Drunk DVDs: 'Alien: Covenant', 'Everything, Everything', 'Riverdale: Season One', And More!

NEW THIS WEEK

From the mind of Ridley Scott comes this latest chapter in the iconic Alien franchise. When the crew of the colony space craft Covenant find an uncharted planet on their journey, they decide to stop and investigate this potential lost paradise. There, they meet robotic assistant David (Michael Fassbender), the lone survivor of the shipwreck in previous Alien prequel Prometheus. Soon, the explorers discover the mysterious dark side of this planet, and the hostile, titular life form it houses.

We Said: “At this point we are two movies into Ridley Scott's newest take on Alien, and by now we know what he's going after. If you picked up some of what he was laying down in Prometheus, then Alien: Covenant will be a satisfying, even superior extension of that. Otherwise, maybe your best bet is to pop in that Aliens Blu-ray and call it a day.” Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Everything, Everything tells the story of Maddy (Amandla Stenberg) a bright young woman bound to her hermetically-sealed house because of an illness. This boundary doesn’t stop Olly (Nick Robinson), the boy next door, from reaching out and engaging with her when others can’t. Developing a relationship through windows and text messages, the two form a type of connection they never thought they could.

We Said: Everything, Everything is the kind of teen movie we need right now—one that treats its diverse cast with respect and its interracial relationship like it’s no big deal, one that presents a world in which anything is possible for its inhabitants, for better or for worse. It is easy, especially in our current world state, to be cynical. Everything, Everything makes a case for earnestness, affection, and understanding, and this summer, that may be what all of us—teens and otherwise—need.” Rating: 4 out of 5
