Samuel L. Jackson Hasn't Signed For 'Captain Marvel', Updates On Nick Fury's Status In Future Films

What's been going on with Nick Fury lately? The eyepatched power behind SHIELD hasn't been seen around the Marvel Universe lately, but we learned at Comic-Con that he would be appearing in the '90s-set Captain Marvel with both of his real eyes. Might that announcement have been a little premature, though? Samuel L. Jackson says so.

Speaking with Yahoo! while promoting his new film, The Hitman's Bodyguard, Jackson revealed that he hasn't signed a deal to join Brie Larson in Captain Marvel yet. In fact, he hasn't even seen a script...

"I haven't signed a contract, haven't seen a script. I talked to Brie [Larson] the other day, she didn't say anything. She's the only person I know that's actually in the movie."

It's a little strange for Marvel to go public with something like this before having their I's dotted and T's crossed, but perhaps they're just confident things will work out.

As for where else we'll see Fury? I think I just sorta assumed we'd see him as part of Black Panther because, dammit, I  want every black hero available to be in it. If they could fit Frozone in there I'd want to see it. Sadly, it doesn't look to be happening, nor is Fury expected to appear in Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers 4...

“I wasn’t in the ‘superhero argument’ movie [Captain America: Civil War], I’m not in Avengers 3 and 4. They’re shooting them now, and they haven’t called me yet. They wouldn’t let me go to Black Panther-ville, so it’s kinda like how you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?!”

I don't see how Fury's out of the picture for Avengers 3 and 4. Isn't preventing alien invasion SHIELD's whole deal? He should be front and center, telling lies and half-truths to convince the heroes to fight their best and save the world. Here's hoping Jackson is just taking a cue from Fury and keeping the secret to himself.
