I haven't been following CW's Black Lightning series too tough, the same way I didn't really follow their other shows until they began. But this news perked my ears up because it centers on a new addition to the cast, West Coast underground rapper Krondon, who I was pretty sure nobody had heard of, and I certainly never thought of as an actor. And yet here he is.
Krondon joins the superhero series as villain, Tobias Whale, and it's a role that couldn't be more perfect.Whale is an African-American albino, which is a trait he shares with Krondon aka Marvin Jones III. Whale was a street hood who rose up in the ranks to lead the powerful organized crime family known as The 100, and are basically responsible for forcing Jefferson Pierce to become Black Lightning. It sounds like the character will be similar in the TV series, minus his 400lb bulk. He'll also have been a politician, and the man responsible for murdering Black Lightning's father.
If you don't know Krondon, he's a longtime member of the West Coast rap trio known as Strong Arm Steady alongside Phil da Agony and Mitchy Slick. Before then he used to appear on bangers rappin' with the likes of Quasimodo and The Lootpack, always with his distinctive, grainy vocals. With his authentic street style he should be a nice fit to play Tobias Whale.
Krondon joins Cress Williams as Black Lightning, Nafessa Williams and China Anne McClain as his daughters, plus James Remar, Christine Adams, and Damon Gupton.
