'Tomb Raider' Writer Is Giving 'Captain Marvel' A New Script

And now we know why Samuel L. Jackson, whose Nick Fury is supposed to have a role in Captain Marvel, can say that he hasn't signed on yet because he hasn't seen a script. The reason is that the script simply isn't ready, as Marvel has just brought on screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet to give it a rewrite.

Robertson-Dworet takes over from Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out), the duo behind the first draft. She's known for penning other female-led action flicks like the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot with Alicia Vikander, and DC Films' Gotham City Sirens starring Margot Robbie. Captain Marvel gives her a chance to work with Oscar winner Brie Larson, who will suit up as Carol Danvers.

What's unclear is if the rewrite will change fundamental aspects that we're already aware of, such as the movie being set in the '90s and dealing with the shapeshifting alien Skrulls. It's also unclear if Fury's role will be expanded or eliminated altogether. He hasn't been offered a contact yet so I guess anything is possible.

Captain Marvel opens  March 8th 2019 directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden. [Deadline]
