Ridley Scott Reveals ALIEN Prequel Details

Few upcoming movies have me more jazzed than Ridley Scott's prequel to Alien. It's not often that a franchise's original creator returns for another go 'round, especially more than twenty years after the fact. Ever since it was announced that he had signed on, details have been few and far between. That's to be expected. In an interview with MTV, the visionary director let slip the first real plot details to date...

Scott: It's set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver's character Ellen Ripley]. It's fundamentally about going out to find out 'Who the hell was that Space Jockey?' The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer's chair.

I love it when an almost forgotten, but important scene like that is used to create fresh stories, and the fact that Scott is springboarding off that is making me even more hyped. In the interview, Scott goes on to reveal that the main character will again be a female, but the story will take place before Ripley was born so no Sigourney Weaver involvement. He also goes on to express some regret over the handling of the franchise after he left it, in particular the Alien vs. Predator series.

It's an interesting read and one worth checking out.
