Fresh off his turn in last year's Oscar nominated film, An Education, Dominic Cooper revealed to Salon.com that he will be portraying the young version of Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger. Stark is the father of Tony Stark, who eventually grows up to become the armored Avenger, Iron Man. In Iron Man 2, Howard was portrayed as an adult by John Slattery.
I wasn't a big fan of Cooper in Mamma Mia, which is probably the first time I recall him in anything. But he won me over with a solid performance amongst a talented cast in An Education. He'll be joining Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, and Hugo Weaving.
Captain America: The First Avenger is slated to be released on July 22, 2011.
