Legendary Acquires Mass Effect Film Rights

EA Games continues to expand their list of video game franchises headed to the big screen. Army of Two, The Sims, Spore, and Dante's Inferno are already in the pre-production stages at a number of studios. Now you can add their hit outer space RPG, Mass Effect, as Legendary Pictures has acquired the rights to produce a film. Warner Brothers is co-producing on the venture. The script is rumored to handled byMark Protosevich(I Am Legend)

The video game's storyline is about a warlike race of creatures from beyond deep space, who attack every 50,000 years to wipe out all life. The player takes control of Commander Shepard, a human operative(known as a Spectre) who investigates and fights to put a stop the the invasion.

This could be huge. I'm still only half way through Mass Effect 2, but even the plot of the original game is enough for three films. I'm anxious to see who they get to helm this thing, but this might be the first video game movie I actually want to happen. I've been burned on all the other ones. Ok, Dead or Alive was fun. But not much else.

If my version of Commander Shepard were to be brought to the big screen, he'd look like Michael Jai White.
