Sure Shots: JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH 2; Jerry Bruckheimer/Disney; Michael Bay

Quickly...

* Whatever will they do without the box office powerhouse that is Brendan Fraser? Deadline is reporting that Brendan Fraser may be skipping out on the sequel to 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth. Why? Because Eric Brevig(Yogi Bear), director of the first film, is being replaced by Brad Peyton(Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore).

*How'd you like to be Terry Rossio and Bill Marsilii's agent right now? The writing pair just scored one of the largest pitch sales ever, with Disney and Jerry Bruckeheimer dropping seven figures on their space epic, Lightspeed. The duo last teamed up for Deja Vu in 2006, which also was sold to Disney/Bruckheimer for seven figures. According to Variety, the story "centers on a young pilot who makes the Earth Interstellar Racing Team and must take his ship on a perilous journey across the galaxy on the brink of war." Disney is looking at this is a potential franchise.

*Michael Bay will be producing an adaption of a book that isn't even friggin' out yet. Through his Bay Films studio, he'll be producing Gideon's Sword, the first in a series of novels known as the Gideon Crew series, written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Paramount Pictures recently snapped up the film rights to the book, which is due out in February 2011. What if it stinks? Will they still want to make it? Call me crazy, but there should be a reasonable window of time after a project releases before it can be optioned.
