Universal Soldier 4 in the Works

The most recent Universal Soldier film hit DVD back in February, and it's been sitting on my Netflix queue ever since. Titled Universal Soldier: Regeneration, it was the third official film in the sci-fi franchise which began back in 1992 starring Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren as a pair of reanimated soldiers. Rolling off of what was generally favorable reviews for a straight-to-DVD flick, Foresight Unlimited has announced that Universal Soldier 4 is already in the works, bring back Van Damme, Lundgren, and director John Hyams.

It was also announced that the feature would be shot in 3-D, which sorta confounds me a little bit. This probably isn't going to get much of a theatrical release. It might not get one at all. So are they making a play for the still untested 3-D television market? It seems like a waste of money to put all that extra effort into a format which nobody's sure will be a success or not. And really, the only way I want to see Dolph Lundgren in 3-D is as Ivan Drago so I can watch him punch Apollo Creed right into my living room. That'd be pretty sweet.
