Fincher's version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will be "very R-Rated"

If you've ever read any of Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy of novels or seen either of the two films that have been released, then you know they are VERY brutal, especially towards women. There are some scenes of sexual abuse that even make me flinch. The first installment, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is actually known as Men Who Hate Women in its native Sweden, and there are no shortage of dudes who fit that description.

We've known for awhile that David Fincher(Zodiac) would be directing an American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but details have been few and far between. Nobody as of yet has been signed for the primary role of rough edged computer hacker, Lisbeth Salander, although there are a number of actresses vying for the role.  My primary concern was how Sony Pictures would alter the material to suit an American audience.

According to Sony co-chairman, Amy Pascal, they aren't altering a thing...

Pascal: We’re doing the book. That’s why we hired David Fincher. We’re going to really do this, in all their glory. Otherwise why do it? They’re very R-rated movies. It’s the shock of what’s really going on underneath the surface of society. If you don’t actually make good on that, you haven’t told the story.

Pascal went on to say that she hopes Fincher will direct the entire trilogy, but nothing has been finalized at this point. I maintain that they must get a name, recognizable actress for the role of Lisbeth so we can see the transformation she must go through. I would kill to see Carey Mulligan(An Education) nail this down, not only because she's a fantastic actress but because seeing her in Lisbeth's Goth inspired look would be such a far cry from anything we've seen her as before.
