Released in 2006, it didn't hit our shores until some time in 2008, and for me it was one of the biggest surprises of the year and very nearly made my Top 10. It was the story of a doctor who was suspected of killing his wife eight years earlier, but was never convicted. Then all of a sudden, two people wind up dead near his house, and he's a suspect all over again. To make matters even more murky, he receives an email with a photograph showing his wife is alive and well, and also eight years older. It's a twisty plot that had me trying to figure it out the whole way through. I suggest checking it out when you get a chance.
Tell No One went on to some success here, so of course almost immediately the rights were bought up by Miramax. With their financial situation being in disarray, the right ended up in hands of Focus Features. I quietly hoped the project would die a silent death, but alas my prayers have not been answered.
Andrew Dominik has been hired to rework the script and story. Dominik directed Eric Bana's breakthrough film, Chopper
, back in 2000. He was also the guy behind The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
in 2007. As of now he's only attached to this film as a screenwriter, but I think it's a pretty good chance he'll wind up in the director's chair. Maybe nothing will come of any of this. I can only hope!
