DVD Deal of the Day: The New World Extended Cut Blu-Ray for $10.49

I had to post about this because without a shadow of doubt in mind, Terrence Malick's The New World is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. Shot completely in eye popping 65mm, the story follows the mysterious, confrontational first meetings between the first white settlers in Virginia and the Native Americans who preceded them. As the two sides make cautious first advances towards eachother, an intense relationship starts to bloom between the fearless tribal princess, Pocahontas(played wonderfully by newcomer Q'orianka Kilcher), and rebellious explorer John Smith(Colin Farrell). As with all of Malick's films, there's a lyrical, poetic quality that completely envelops you. I saw The New World for the first time and was so dumbfounded by the sweeping score and imagery that I simply couldn't think of a way to adequately describe it in words. All I knew was that I wanted to own it, and I bought the film as soon as it was released on DVD.

Now Amazon.com is offering the chance to own this breathtaking film on Blu-Ray for the low price of only $10.49. This is the extended cut version, putting back the thirty minutes or so that Malick himself trimmed down for the theatrical release. The package also includes a comprehensive 10-part documentary of the making of this ambitious project.  The New World is a must own film, and you can pick up your copy now right here.
