I look forward to Roman Polanski's movies the way an addict looks for their next hit. While I wasn't exactly in love with The Ghost Writer last year, I adored the noirish style he employed, as well as the great performance he pulled out of Pierce Brosnan. My excitment for that film is nothing compared to what I've got for Carnage(formerly titled God of Carnage), his actors' showpiece featuring the incredible talents of Kate Winslet, John C. Reilly, Christoph Waltz, and Jodie Foster. Believe me, I agonized for a couple minutes on who I would list last in that awesome group.
Based on the acclaimed play by Yasmina Reza(who also served as co-writer with Polanski), the film features a pair of couples who meet for dinner after their kids get into a schoolyard fight. Originally based in New York, shooting was recently wrapped in Paris because of Polanski's questionable legal status. EmpireOnline snagged the first image from the film, and a brief sneak peek with Foster, where she compares the film to a funnier Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Count me totally in. I can't wait to see Foster and Winslet biting eachothers' heads off from across the table. I'm expecting an Oscar nomination or two to come out of this one.
