Teaser Trailer: Mr. Popper's Penguins, starring Jim Carrey

A quick scan of Jim Carrey's filmography has re-confirmed what I've suspected for awhile. There aren't very many of his movies I actually dig. In fact, I haven't liked a movie he's starred in since 2004's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. That's one hell of a drought. The dry spell looks to be continuing with his latest, Mr. Popper's Penguins.

Based on Richard and Florence Atwater's 1938 book about a poor house painter who sees his life turned upside down when he inherits a bunch of penguins, the story has been modernized and retro-fitted with crap that makes it look like something out of 1995.  Now Mr. Popper is a wealthy businessman who lives with the creepy, waddling birdies, turning his entire life upside and changing his apartment into a cold weather habitat. The film is directed by the once promising Mark Waters(Mean Girls), and stars Carla Gugino(Sucker Punch), Philip Baker Hall, Angela Lansbury, and a few other folks not worth mentioning.

Is it ok that I hate this movie already? Sure my opinion could change once I actually see it, but for now this is exactly the type of film I could do without. The humor is straight up lazy. Animal comedies are always tough, because the humans look like morons. And really, what the frig is up with the "Ice Ice Baby"? Word? Kick that shit somewhere else.

Below you'll find the first teaser trailer for the film, which will be showing this weekend ahead of Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2. My suggestion is you show up to the movie a bit late.

Mr. Popper's Penguins hits theaters on June 17th!
