Sure Shots: Wendell Pierce; Ian McKellen; Seeking a Friend at the End of the World

* Wendell Pierce has long been one of Hollywood's true unsung talents. Starting from the first time I noticed him in A Rage in Harlem, to being the greatest standout(sorry Idris Elba!) in every season of The Wire, the guy always gives top notch performances. He still does every single week for HBO in the series, Treme. Now he's finally getting the lead role he's so rightly deserved, as he'll be starring as legendary blues man B.B. King in the biopic, B.B. King and I. Pierce tweeted the news, then picked up by Shadow and Act. Patrick Fugit(Saved!) will co-star, likely as longtime King associate Michael Zanetis.

* Who wants to see Ian McKellen and Judi Dench get eaten? Um, eaten by zombies?? I do! Gandalf and M respectively are set to star in The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet, based on a short film by director and co-writer Matthew Butler. The story takes place in the 1700s where the residents of a town are struck by a terrible illness that turns them into zombies. Gillian Anderson(The X-Files) will co-star as well. Speaking of "buxom strumpets", keep an eye out for Dench's hilarious cameo in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides this weekend.

* One of the films I'm most curious about is Lorene Scafaria's Seeking a Friend at the End of the World. The film has Steve Carell and Keira Knightley on a road trip against the backdrop of the planet's coming demise. We've heard some of the rest of the cast already, but now we know everybody who will be featured, and it's pretty damn impressive.  William Petersen(CSI), Derek Luke(Pieces of April), Rob Corddry(Hot Tub Time Machine), Melanie Lynskey(Away We Go), TJ Miller(Yogi Bear), Connie Britton(Friday Night Lights), Adam Brody(Scream 4), Rob Huebel(Little Fockers), Gillian Jacobs(Community), Roger Aaron Brown(Action Jackson), Tonita Castro(The Future), Melinda Dillon(A Christmas Story), Lindsay Sloane(Bring It On) and Patton Oswalt(Big Fan) all have climbed aboard. Wow.
