Trailer Time: The Smurfs, starring poor Neil Patrick Harris

The Smurfs Smurf Manhattan? If the first trailer for The Smurfs didn't make you a fan, chances are this one won't. The cartoon I loved as a kid has been churned into CG/live-action mush that appears to be about as funny as a bloody bowel movement. As best I can tell, the plot entails Gargamel(Hank Azaria, who never met a bad role he couldn't turn awesome) ransacking Smurf Village and forcing the little blue buggers to flee into some sort of wormhole. Their destination? New York, where I guess it's too much to ask that they get eaten by giant rats.  Somewhere in there they meet up with Doogie Howser and that chick who looks like Anna Faris, say "Smurf" a nauseating number of times, and...well I think that's it.  Check out the trailer below, and if your a total smurf for brains go hit up the flick when it hits on July 29th. Maybe then we'll find out why one of the Smurfs has a Scottish accent.

Does anybody even know who directed this thing? Unfortunately it was Raja Gosnell, who hammered us with Beverly Hills Chihuahua(a #1 hit!!!??) a couple of years ago. How he managed to scrounge up a voice cast like this is beyond my understand. Katy Perry, Jonathan Winters, Anton Yelchin, George Lopez, Jeff Foxxworthy, Alan Cumming, Fred Armisen, and Paul Reubens are all featured.
