It's turned out to be a pretty good few months for Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain, stars of Jeff Nichols Cannes fave, Take Shelter. He's about to lay some waste to Henry Cavill's Superman as General Zod in Man of Steel. She's about to be in so many places at once you'll be seeing her crimson locks in your dreams....which to be honest some dudes I know already are. Her dreamy performance as part of Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life was one of the film's highlights.
As for Take Shelter, the duo star as a couple in a small Ohio town, struggling to make ends meet. Through it all, they love each other and their family is strong. Then suddenly he starts to having terrible dreams of an impending apocalyptic storm, and begins to obsess over the building of a storm shelter to protect them.
Judging by the trailer I can already see that this one's going to creep along at a glacial pace, but I'm already digging Shannon's performance. It's almost like a twist on the paranoid performance he gave in Bug
