This has already been a big year for comedy movies, in particular R-rated ones But also for female driven ones, backed mainly by the remarkable performance of Bridesmaids. The director of that great film, Paul Feig, hasn't slowed down since. He's got a future film with Judd Apatow on the way, as well as an unconventional rom-com with Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm. The point is, dude has options, and more are piling on by the day.
TheDailyMail reports that Feig has entered talks to direct the third Bridget Jones's Diary film, which sorta makes sense considering it was another extremely popular chick comedy that broke a lot of ground at the time. The first film was released in 2001 and besides making a bunch of frumpy women think they all get snag two dudes like Colin Firth and Hugh Grant, it gave Renee Zellwegger an Oscar nomination and earned over $280M. Guh. The 2004 sequel, The Edge of Reason, was less successful here in the States but still managed $260M worldwide.
Rumors about a possible third film have been floating around for awhile, with both Zellwegger and Firth at different times expressing some interest. Not surprising for Zellwegger, who has sorta been off the map for awhile now. Firth is constantly in demand, and Hugh Grant....well he could probably fit it in somehow. None of the three are contractually bound, however. The third film, witten by Jones creator Helen Fielding, would follow her desire to be a mother.
