Adam Green reveals who will direct Hatchet 3
I only saw the first Hatchet film, and to say I was disappointed would be quite the understatement. Slasher horrors like it just aren't my bag, but there are plenty of people I know who look at Adam Green's flicks as the best thing going for fans of the genre. Kane Hodder(Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th flicks) is pretty impressive as the monstrous Victor Crowley, but otherwise I just didn't' see anything that makes Hatchet so unique.
Adam Green has been teasing fans since August with news of Hatchet 3's imminent arrival, but he remained coy about who would direct. No, Green won't be back, but he said that back then that his choice was someone who has been a part of the Hatchet family since the beginning. Turns out he wasn't lying, announcing that cameraman BJ McDonnell will be at the helm. McDonnell had this to say...
McDonnell: I’ve been with the Hatchet team from the very beginning and am honored and thrilled that Adam has handed me the reins on this third movie. I grew up watching horror films and like Adam Green, I’m a true genre fan at heart. I have been waiting for an opportunity like this to step up and make my directorial debut with something I love and know inside and out. Working together with Adam, we plan to make a kick ass movie!
The plan is to have the next film pick up right where the sequel left off, "as a young woman sought revenge on the malevolent monster that killed her family while they were fishing in Louisiana swamp country.”
The Hatchet films havent' exactly been blockbusters, but they've developed a substantial cult following. Last year's film became the first unrated indie horror film to be exhibited in a major theater chain, although some controversy sprung up from that after AMC quickly yanked the film.
This may be McDonnell's directorial debut, he's spent time as cameraman for a number of major productions, including Battle: Los Angeles, MacGruber, and The Darkest Hour.
