Kerry Washington finally confirmed for Django Unchained

After first being rumored for the role of Broomhilda in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained waaaay back in June, Kerry Washington(Lakeview Terrace) has officially snagged the part of the freed slave's captive wife, and the purpose for his bloody quest for vengeance. At the time the role appeared to be a small one, but with Tarantino supposedly doing some rewrites(supposedly to get Michael K. Williams into the film), who knows if that's changed somehow. Tarantino had been looking into the idea of casting an unknown for the highly visible role, but I think he made a wise move in selecting the versatile and sexy Washington.

Broomhilda is essentially the final piece in the casting puzzle. The story centers on Django(Jamie Foxx) a freed slave who joins forces with a German bounter hunter(Christoph Waltz) to rescue his wife from the clutches of evil ranch owner, Calvin Candie(Leonardo Dicaprio). Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Johnson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Laura Cayouette, Dennis Christopher, MC Gainey, and Tom Savini co-star in the film set to hit theaters on December 25th 2012.

Washington's been pretty quiet so far in 2011, but she had a strong 2012, starring in Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls, and giving one of the best female performances of the year in Tanya Hamilton's Night Catches Us.  [Deadline]
