Sure Shots: One Shot; Fernando Meirelles; Jack Nicholson

* Josh Helman(HBO's The Pacific) has joined the cast of One Shot, the adaptation of Lee Child's novel following wandering military man, Jack Reacher. The story centers on Reacher's investigation into a sniper's alledged murder of five peopled, which quickly devolves into a deeper conspiracy. Tom Cruise, Richard Jenkins, Rosamund Pike, Alexia Fast, and David Oyelowo star. Christopher McQuarrie will write and direct. [Variety]

* So the response to Fernando Meirelles' romance, 360, hasn't been all that positive. The City of God and The Constant Gardener director remains a personal favorite of mine, and so anything he's attached to deserves full attention. Meirelles recently confirmed a rumor that had been floating around for months, that his next film would be Onassis, based on JFK's widow, Jackie Kennedy Onassis. The story will center on the volatile relationship between her husband, Aristotle Onassis, and Bobby Kennedy.

* You have to respect Jack Nicholson. The 74-year old actor hasn't let his Hall of Fame career get trashed in the same way Al Pacino and Robert De Niro's have.  How Do You Know was a nasty skid mark, but basically the few films he's taken have been inoffensive. While his name continues to be bounced around for a number of projects, one has cropped up which may be the best of the bunch. Brian Helgeland(The Order) is seeking Nicholson to join 42, his planned Jackie Robinson biopic. He'd be taking on the role of Branch Rickey, the Brooklyn Dodgers exec who gave Robinson his big break. Robert Redford had been mentioned for the role previously. [Vulture]
