Sure Shots: World War Z; Robert Zemeckis; The Lords of Salem
* Vaunted character actor David Morse(The Hurt Locker, Drive Angry) has joined the cast of World War Z, which is currently in the process of filming. Directed by Marc Forster(Machine Gun Preacher), the graphic novel adaptation stars Brad Pitt as a government beaurucrat compiling information in the wake of a global war against zombies. Bryan Cranston, James Badge Dale, Mirielle Enos, and Matthew Fox co-star. [Deadline]
* I was a fan of Robert Zemeckis' motion capture flicks, but now that he's back making live-action stuff he's making some very interesting choices. The latest is Charles Fort, based in part on the Dark Horse comic book series Fort: Prophet of the Unexplained. Fort was a real life guy, an author who specialized in the realm of the paranormal, ultimately writing four books on the subject. The comic book reimagines him as a sort of Sherlock Holmes of the weird. The film is being sold as a period-Ghostbusters epic, which sounds pretty awesome. Evan Spiliotopoulos(Snow White and the Huntsman) will write the script. [THR]
* Time for the daily casting update from Rob Zombie on his upcoming horror, The Lords of Salem. Billy Drago(The Hills Have Eyes), who has made his career mostly playing movie villains, has joined the cast of the modern day witch tale. He'll play Judge Samuel Mather, who apparently plays a key role in the history of the Lords.
