Trailer Time: The Lady, directed by Luc Besson

When the teaser trailer for The Lady was released back in August I said that the combination of  French director Luc Besson and the presence of Michelle Yeoh could make the film a surprise awards contender. Well, scratch that. France picked Declaration of War to be their selection for Best Foreign Language contender at the Oscars. Whomp whomp. Oh well, it still looks like a sweeping, dramatic film that hopefully will earn Yeoh the attention she so rightfully deserves.

The story will center on Nobel Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, Burmese politician and pro-democracy activist and the time she spent on house arrest in Burma away from her dying husband(David Thewlis) and her supporters.

This looks like the type of movie Academy voters usually swoon over, and even though some of the dialogue is a little wooden(not by Yeoh, thankfully), there's no denying how gorgeous it is. So if Best Foreign Language film is off the table, is there maybe a shot at Best Picture? We'll have to wait and see where it lands on the release date schedule. Right now there's a tentative November 30th date but it's not set in stone.  For now, feast on the new trailer for The Lady...
