Adam Brody takes on films by Neil Labute, Rob Meltzer
Adam Brody, the guy who made comic book geeks cool(for awhile) as part of The OC, has carved a nice niche for himself as a capable supporting actor, but he hasn't had the limelight to himself in a little while. Not since 2007's In the Land of Women, and while that film was a bit hit 'n miss, Brody was pretty good. This year might be his busiest by far, and by the end of it we may be talking about him as a viable leading man. He's just added two more films to his slate that may do the trick.
Variety notes a pair of very different projects Brody has become attached to. The first is Some Girls, based on a stage play Neil Labute, to be directed by Mad Men's Jennifer Getzinger. Labute will pen the script and produce the familiar sounding film, about a guy about to be married who decides to travel across the country and meet his five ex-girlfriends in hotel rooms. Production kicks off in April.
And next is Welcome to the Jungle, a which sounds like Severance mixed with Lord of the Flies. Directed by Rob Meltzer, the film follows employees at a design firm who go off on a retreat to a tropical island, only to become stranded. As chaos ensues and people devolve into savagery, sides begin to form, and Brody's character is forced to take on the leader power mad leader to rescue his colleagues. Rob Huebel, Dennis Haysbert, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Kristen Schaal star. That one should begin filming next month.
So yeah, Brody isn't going to have a lot of free time on his hands. He's currently set to play porn star Harry Reems in Lovelace, the biopic starring Amanda Seyfried. Later this year he'll appear in one of my most anticipated films, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, which stars Steve Carell and Keira Knightley. And he'll also star alongside Greta Gerwig in the indie comedy, Damsels in Distress.
