Hailee Steinfeld joins 'Can A Song Save Your Life' with Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson

It took awhile for Hailee Steinfeld to really find her groove after the immediate success of True Grit. She kinda floundered for awhile, with her reps struggling in their attempts to attract quality roles for her. A wrong move could make her a one-hit wonder, but she's made some solid choices the last few months. She's attached to yet another version of Romeo & Juliet, and will feature in a big screen adaptation of sci-fi juggernaut, Ender's Game. She was even rumored for the lead in Kimberly Peirce's remake of Carrie. None of those projects sound all that interesting to me, but she's just landed a role in a film that is quickly becoming

Steinfeld will join the Judd Apatow produced Can A Song Save Your Life, from writer/director John Carney. Just like Carney's award winning hit, Once, the film revolves around two people and their passion for music. Scarlett Johansson plays a woman who moves to New York with her boyfriend to pursue their dreams of hitting it big in the industry, only to find herself alone when he leaves her for the fame of a solo career. Mark Ruffalo plays a down 'n out record exec who discovers her, changing both of their lives for the better. Steinfeld will play Ruffalo's daughter, and it'll be interesting to see if it requires her to do any singing.

Filming is set to begin this summer in New York, giving Steinfeld plenty of time to wrap up Romeo & Juliet. [THR]
