Trailer Time: 'Seeking a Friend for the End of the World', starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley

When the end of the world finally happens, will people devolve into depression and madness like in Lars Von Trier's Melancholia? Probably, but in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World it's almost like a cause for celebration. Everyday is casual Friday? The return of free love? Speeding tickets? Pfft! A thing of the past. The first trailer for the apocalyptic comedy has been released, starring Steve Carell as a guy who goes off on a road trip to find a former flame as an oncoming meteor signals the earth's imminent destruction. Keira Knightley plays his daffy neighbor who tags along to search for her family, and along the way they run into an odd assortment of characters.

Patton Oswalt, Melanie Lynskey, TJ Miller, Adam Brody, Derek Luke, and Connie Britton co-star in the film marking the directorial debut of screenwriter Lorene Scafaria(Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist).  At this point the film looks to be totally a comedy. A strange, bittersweet comedy, but one nonetheless. It's likely we'll see more emotional layers develop in later trailers, though. Overall, this looks pretty fantastic.  Check out the trailer below, and hope we don't experience our own apocalypse until after June 22nd....
