Y'know, it's been quite awhile since we heard anything on that Deadpool movie, featuring Ryan Reynolds as the motor-mouthed mercenary. Hopefully when Ryan Reynolds moves on from R.I.P.D. we'll get some movement on it. After courting Robert Rodriguez to direct it, little known film maker Tim Miller got the call. With no clear start date in sight, Miller will first flex his muscles on another comic book adaptation.
Miller will take on Gravel, based on the popular British character created by Warren Ellis. First appearing in the 1999 Strange Kiss limited series, William Gravel is a "combat magician" in the military who uses his special powers to earn some extra cash. I've only read one random issue of the most recent Gravel series and he's almost like a harder edged Constantine.
Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell will write the script, bouncing off Ellis' first draft. Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers will handle production and distribution. Tim Miller most recently directed the roaring liquid metal opening credits for David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. [Deadline]
