Sean Penn to join Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's 'Flim-Flam Man'?

Ever since he starred in Alejando Gonzalez Inarritu's underrated 21 Grams, still his best film in my opinion, Sean Penn has wanted to work with the Mexican director again. For awhile he was circling Inarritu's adaptation of Michael Punke's survivalist tale, The Revenant, which also had Leonardo DiCaprio interested. That project hasn't come to pass just yet, but Penn has his eyes set on another promising film with the director.

Just last week we learned Inarritu would direct Flim Flam Man, based on Jennifer Vogel's memoir about her father, a counterfeiter, fraudster, bank robber, and more who committed his crimes in an attempt to provide the better things for his family. Vulture reports that Penn desperately wants the lead role in the film, which may be titled Red Flag. Terrible idea. Flim Flam Man has a much better ring to it. I think it goes without saying that Inarritu wouldn't turn down another chance to work with Penn, as it all but assures the film will get made and draw some attention.

When this will get underway is anybody's guess right now, but if the pieces fall into place we may see The Revenant begin filming next year.
