Here comes college!! Michael Bacall and Jonah Hill scripting '21 Jump Street' sequel
21 Jump Street is receiving some of the best reviews of the year, and deservedly so. Nobody expected a remake of a silly 1980s cop series that was cooler than it was good to be worth revisiting, but Jonah Hill and writer Michael Bacall have done something truly special. Few action comedies reach the level of madcap genius, mixed with genuinely intelligent insight, that this film does. With it looking to be headed towards a massive opening box office weekend, there should be no surprise to learn that Sony is already prepping the sequel.
This is only confirmation of what Jonah Hill revealed last month, when he said the sequel had been given the green light by Sony, and that writing had already begun. Variety says the deal is now signed, sealed, and delivered, for Bacall and Hill to once again collaborate on the script. No casting's been finalized yet, but you can pretty much count on Channing Tatum to be back. The film ends practically spelling out for us what a sequel might look like, and I for one want to see that happen.
21 Jump Street is currently in theaters, and I highly suggest getting your tickets now and seeing it tonight.
