Let's face it, when a film adds a slew of superstar talent like Clive Owen, Zoe Saldana, Mila Kunis, James Caan, Marion Cotillard, Billy Crudup, and Bullhead star Matthias Schoenaerts all in one shot the way Guillaume Canet did last month, anybody who follows is going to seem like a disappointment. That said, the latest additions to the cast of Blood Ties are only going to make what sounds like a great project even better.
Indie vet Lily Taylor(Six Feet Under) has joined the cast, joined by Domenick Lombardozzi, a former regular on The Wire and current star of AMC's Breakout Kings. My wife loves that show. Anyway, Canet will direct and co-wrote the script along with James Gray, and much like Gray's We Own the Night, it will deal with two brothers on opposite sides of the law.
Canet should be intimately familiar with the material as he starred in Les Liens Du Sang, the 2008 film on which this story is loosely based. I keep hoping Canet will become a bigger name here in the States, especially after his mind bending thriller, Tell No One. Instead he's basically just known as the guy who traded in his relationship with Diane Kruger for one with Marion Cotillard. How fair is that? [Variety]
