3. The Divide
Part grisly character study, part nihilistic nightmare, The Divide is a the latest post-apocalyptic vision from Xavier Gens(Frontiers). Michael Biehn, Lauren German, Rosanna Arquette, and Milo Ventimiglia(it's good despite him, folks) star as a group of tenants who hole themselves up in a locked down apartment while the world suffers a horrific nuclear disaster outside. Think Lord of the Flies as supplies dwindle, people start getting rowdy, and their baser instincts start to take over. If this type of film doesn't appeal to you normally, check it out for Biehn's intense and disturbing performance.
2. Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol
What was all that about Tom Cruise passing the torch to Jeremy Renner? Yeah...that ain't gonna happen. IMF agent Ethan Hunt is back in what I(and my WAFCA homie Dustin Putman) referred to as the best pure action movie of 2011. When a mission inside the Kremlin literally blows up in their faces, Hunt and his team are forced to go off the grid to find the real culprits. Consider this one a must buy.
1. Shame
Emotionally cold yet with a fiery and undeniable charisma, Michael Fassbender gives the performance of his young career in this brilliant, sexually charged thriller. Joined by his Hunger director, Steve McQueen, and featuring an equally powerful turn by Carey Mulligan, Fassbender plays a sexual addict trying to keep his sanity after the arrival of his sister sends his isolated life into a tailspin.
