Say "Happy Birthday, David" in an awesome new 'Prometheus' viral featuring Michael Fassbender; plus a new Russian trailer
The android character in most sci-fi movies is either secretly evil or the story's moral compass. It's the one who somehow manages to find what makes people uniquely human while the actual people around it devolve into madness and lose their way. In the Alien movies that's no different, and it appears to be the case with Prometheus and David, the robot portrayed by Michael Fassbender.
In an awesome new viral video that just emerged, we see David enthusiastically pumping his own qualifications to an interviewer. What we learn is that David can perform pretty much anything a human can, including considering grand concepts like the scope of the universe. The rather light and chirpy tone, complete with packaged "How-to" video theme music, feels like a commercial for Weyland Industries. And yet we also get a bit of foreshadowing when David begins talking about the "unethical" functions he can also perform, and showing obvious signs of distress when considering things such as war, poverty, unnecessary violence, and cruelty.
If the Guy Pearce/Peter Weyland viral was a little dry, this one is simply fantastic, and so for that matter is Fassbender. We've talked many times on this site about how great he was at bottling up his emotions in a movie like Shame, but he looks to be just as good here at expressing an android's idea of what human emotions are like. All of the people behind the Prometheus marketing deserve a pat on the back and a bonus for the way they've sold this film without giving away any major details.
There's also a new Russian trailer which features some new footage. June 8th can't get here soon enough, but for now feast on these two new vids....[Prometheus Forum/Twitch]
