It's going to be hard to keep an open mind about Lifetime's decision to cast Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor in their upcoming exploitopic, Lindsay & Dick. Part of me things it's all a publicity stunt, hoping people will tune in to see if she falls flat on her face or has a little dusting of cocaine under her nose. Certainly, on the surface it looks like a massive slap in the mug to have her play the legendary actress, one of the last true movie stars we're likely to ever see. And yet, with the release of this first, steamy image of Lohan and co-star Grant Bowler(Ugly Betty) in the film, I'm starting to think this may be a first step in Lohan's comeback.
Granted, it's very early on and the image doesn't show much, but Lifetime's confidence in releasing it has me thinking they are taking this seriously. Hiring Christopher Monger(Temple Grandin) to write the script was a smart first step, but to me the jury is out just as much on Bowler as it is on Lohan. Signed on just a couple of weeks ago to the role of Taylor's ex, Richard Burton, Bowler is a recognizable actor who has been around for awhile and never really made an impact. I mean...dude is hosting The Amazing Race Australia, and he's supposed to play the charismatic screen legend believably? We'll see.
The story will of course follow Taylor and Burton's rocky relationship which was always on the front page of the tabloid rags. Even if both Lohan and Bowler do play the parts beautifully, capturing the on screen magic of these amazing stars is going to be tough. [Deadline]
